The McKinnon Basketball Association (MBA) is one of Victoria’s fastest growing community sporting Association’s. Managing a quality Junior and Senior Domestic competition, we participate in Basketball Victoria’s VJBL and Big V leagues as the McKinnon Cougars, and we offer a range of beginner, development and high performance programs every day of the week. Our vision is to be leaders in moving the game forward, enabling everyone within our community to participate, grow and develop in the sport of basketball.
Position Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity to join an Award Winning Association. We're looking for a dynamic, creative, sports enthusiastic Marketing Specialist to join our team and take our brand and digital presence to the next level!
As a designer and content creator you will be responsible for designing, planning and executing our vision and marketing strategies across Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, website and email marketing. This is an on-site role at our Moorabbin office and across various basketball venues within our community.
Key Responsibilities:
Graphic Design and Content Creation:
Design and produce brand-aligned visuals and high-quality graphics, promotional material
& digital content using Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) or Canva for social
media, website, and email campaigns.
Create compelling content for social media, blogs, website, and email campaigns.
Create and implement brands and style guides for consistent visual identity.
Supporting game-day content creation and rapid-turnaround graphics for events.
Produce motion graphics to enhance storytelling.
Ensure all content is visually appealing, on-brand, and engages the MBA community.
Social Media Management:
Manage and grow the association's presence on social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
Plan, schedule & post content based on competitions, programs, player signings,
announcements, game day material and activities using social media scheduling tools (eg
Hootesuite, Later).
Design engaging posts, reels, and stories using Adobe Suite or Canva.
Engage with the online community: respond to comments, manage interactions and monitor
social media trends.
Analyse and report on campaign performance.
Website and Email Management:
Manage and maintain the MBA website, ensuring it is up-to-date and user-friendly.
Design, create and schedule email campaigns and newsletters, to promote products
sponsors, new launches and announcements using email management software (eg
Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor).
Manage email marketing campaigns for customer engagement and retention.
Track and report on email and website performance metrics.
Create video content for reels, stories, and ads.
Write and format blog posts, captions and other content that aligns with the Association’s
strategy and goals.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with multiple teams to develop content and align creative assets with
campaign goals that promote key events, programs and initiatives.
Collaborate with players, coaches and referees to maximise brand exposure.
Research and negotiate deals with potential influencers that align with our brand to
promote our products.
Support marketing campaigns and drive digital traffic for key initiatives such as
tournaments and community events.
General Marketing Support:
Assist with a variety of marketing tasks, including brainstorming ideas, planning campaigns,
improving our brand presence and develop content strategies to support Association’s goals.
Stay updated on trends, and digital marketing best practices.
Prepare monthly engagement reports and provide insights to improve future strategies.
Support internal communications, presentations, year book, and marketing-related admin
duties.
Update internal documentation, files, and records for marketing activities.
Help organise Association events, including finding venues, compiling database, designing
presentation and managing event logistics.
Ensure all events run smoothly and align with brand goals.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
2-3 years of experience in social media and digital marketing.
Experience with Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Ads Manager.
Strong skills in graphic design tools like Adobe Suite and Canva.
Ability to create engaging content, including reels and stories.
Experience in email marketing.
Strong design principles, including typography, layout, and brand alignment.
Experience in motion design/animations and video editing.
Be a storyteller!
Thrive in a fast-paced, sporting environment.
Detail-oriented with excellent communication and time management skills.
A passion for basketball or sports, with the ability to translate it into creative outputs.
Confidence to organise events and handle logistics.
A proactive and positive attitude, with a willingness to learn.
Must be able to work on-site in Moorabbin and across different basketball venues depending
on game day requirements.
Must be available to work some weekends and evenings.
